No response from Facebook, YouTube: Palak

State Minister for Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak on Tuesday said Facebook and YouTube are yet to explain their spreading off violent contents on the platforms in Bangladesh.

“We gave Facebook, YouTube, and TikTok a time to explain till tomorrow (Wednesday). We expected they will provide written explanation but we did not receive anything written or verbal,” Palak told the reporters after an urgent meeting on cyber security at Bangladesh Computer Council at Agargaon in Dhaka.

However, TikTok replied in a mail that it is very cordial and wants to cooperate with the government, he added.

Earlier, the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission asked Facebook, YouTube, and TikTok to provide an explanation by Tuesday (July 30), and summoned representatives from the social media platforms to appear in person at the BTRC building in Agargaon, Dhaka, by Wednesday (July 31).
