Palak fears cyberattacks on banking, RMG, telecom, energy sectors

State Minister for Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak has expressed concerns about potential cyberattacks targeting four major sectors in the current situation in Bangladesh. 

These sectors include the banking industry, garment sector, telecommunications, and power-fuel sector.

Palak made these remarks during a briefing held after the 'current cyber security emergency meeting' on Tuesday (July 30) around 1:30 pm at the Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) conference room in Agargaon, Dhaka.

"After reviewing the current state of cyber security, we fear cyberattacks on these four critical sectors," Palak stated. 

He emphasised the necessity for heightened vigilance and personal awareness to mitigate these threats. He also stressed the importance of following specific security protocols at the organisational level and called for cooperation from all stakeholders to ensure the country's cyber security.

Palak highlighted the need to adhere strictly to security guidelines at the state level, noting that 35 critical information infrastructures have been identified. "Our partners will be instructed to strictly follow their cyber security measures as per today's decision," he added.

The cyber security meeting saw the participation of several key officials, including Md Mushfiqur Rahman, Secretary of the Telecommunications Department; Major General Ziaul Ahsan, Director General of the National Telecommunication Monitoring Center; Ranjit Kumar, Executive Director of Bangladesh Computer Council; Imdadul Haque, President of Internet Service Providers Association of Bangladesh (ISPAB); Abu Saeed Md. Kamruzzaman, Director General of the National Cyber Security Agency; as well as representatives from Bangladesh Bank, Civil Aviation, Police, DGFI, and NSI.
