Drive against illegal internet service provider soon

Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) is going to launch drive against illegal Internet Service Providers (ISPs) very soon.

As per the Bangladesh Telecommunication ACT 2001 (Amendment 2010), there is a provision to take license from BTRC in setting up structure, machinery for ISP operations. But many organizations are in operations without proper permission.

As per the law, the operation without BTRC’s permission is punishable offence and there is provision for highest Tk 300 crore fine or 10 years’ imprisonment or both for such offence.

In a press statement on Wednesday, BTRC urged all to refrain from such illegal activities.

The regulatory body also urged internet users to take standard and uninterrupted internet services from legal ISPs and to assist government find out illegal internet service providers.
