Team NUB wins 2nd place at BDApps National Hackathon

The award and closing ceremony of the country’s largest mobile app competition ‘BDApps National Hackathon 2022’ was held at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) where the 10 best teams were recognized recently.

In this National Hackathon, Team NUB, a group of three students from Northern University of Bangladesh, won second place and was awarded Tk 125,000 for their outstanding performance.

According to the organizers, by creating a digital matchmaking service app “e-biye”, Team NUB won the second place, beating nearly two thousand teams in the country.

Three students of the Computer Science and Engineering Department of Dhaka’s Northern University Bangladesh - Saddam Hosen, Mahmud Hasan Emon and Imran Khan Ovi -made this app.

Robi’s CEO Rajeev Shetty, Chief Commercial Officer Shihab Ahmed and other company senior officials were present at the function organized at the Celebrity Hall of BICC. 

State Minister for Information and Communication Technology Junaid Ahmed Palak was the chief guest at the event. Bikarna Kumar Ghosh, Managing Director of Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Authority and Russel T Ahmed, President of BASIS, were also present. Furthermore, many famous tech YouTubers of the country were also in attendance. Ayman Sadiq conducted the event.

BDApps, an initiative from the telecom operator Robi, is presently one of the recognized and reputed names in Bangladesh’s Information and Technology sector. It is an app store from where various mobile apps can be downloaded. Along with the ICT Department of the Bangladesh government, organizations like Robi, BASIS, Bangladesh Innovation Forum, JCI and many more are involved in this competition.

This year, BDApps organized the National Hackathon 2022, the country’s largest mobile app hackathon. Through this contest, participants were able to generate their idea, prototype them, produce a MVP, and complete the product to win a total prize of 5 lakh taka. BDApps National Hackathon is a platform to find, launch and promote innovative and working apps created by local developers.

The developers had the opportunity to participate by forming teams of 2, 3, or 4 people. Through this, they can present their app ideas in front of industry experts.

Online registration for BDApps Hackathon started on 22 June and ended on 31 July. In this phase, interested participants registered their teams. More than five thousand developers from all over Bangladesh registered to form more than two thousand teams. In the first phase, 300 teams out of more than 2000 registered teams were given the opportunity to participate in the regional round. Out of these 300 teams, participating in these five regional rounds - Dhaka, Rajshahi, Sylhet, Khulna, and Chittagong - 36 teams got the opportunity to participate with ten teams being recognized in the final round.

At the event, State Minister Junaid Ahmed Palak thanked Team NUB for their contributions.
