Revert to a chronological timeline on Twitter
Twitter, the popular social networking service, has started using a special algorithm to sort tweets you see in your timeline. This means that tweets will no longer appear in a chronological order.
The move, according to the company, is to provide users with the best tweets.“Tweets you are likely to care about most will show up first in your timeline. We choose them based on accounts you interact with most, tweets you engage with, and much more,” the company posted on its official Help Centre.
The news isn’t new as Twitter has been using a similar algorithm-based approach with its “while you were away” feature which shows top tweets since your last visit.
While the feature is now turned on by default, you are still able to opt out by heading to Settings, and then Timeline.
Simply deselect “Show me the best Tweets first” and you are good to go. Twitter is the best place to get the latest news around the world which is one good reason to stick to a real-time chronological timeline.
Just three days ago, Instagram, the photo sharing service, announced that it is testing a similar algorithm to sort its content feed. It expects to roll it out in the coming months.
