Internet users in Bangladesh surpassed 7 crore mark as the first six months of this year registered 67.24 lakh new users that took the tally to 7.34 crore at the end of June.

According to the latest statistics released by the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) today, over 93.60 percent or 6.86 crore users browse internet through mobile phone.

Users of Internet Service Provider (ISP) and Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) increased to 46.22 lakh.

However, the BTRC data reflected that WiMAX operators are losing customers gradually as their users stood at 75,000 against 3.52 lakh in June last year.

Besides, mobile phone users of four operators in Bangladesh reached 13.59 crore in June.

Market leader Grameenphone took the top position bagging 6.15 crore customers followed by Robi after merger with Airtel 3.95 crore, Banglalink 3.15 crore and state-owned Teletalk 32.60 lakh customers.

But, the regulator didn't publish any statistics of country's first operator Citycell which is in trouble over payment.
