Directive to compensate for call drop soon: Tarana

The government is going to issue directive to the cellular phone operators to compensate their customers for call drop.

"Telecom regulator would monitor properly the number of call drop and amount of return by the operators for it so the customers are not be loser," Posts and Telecommunications Minister Tarana Halim said on Wednesday.

"A directive to this end would be issued soon", announced the state minister at a press conference at ministry office that organized for marking two years of the second term of the present Awami League led grand alliance government.

Replying to the query when the pay back service would be introduced, she said, "Telecom regulator is working on it. The customer would start to get the pay back by this year and BTRC will issue notification on it."

Mentioning her discussion with the operators regarding call drop and quality of network, Tarana Halim said they have also directed the operators to comply with the BTRC`s quality of standard instruction, stop the unwanted package and violation of copyright as well.

The state minister had given instruction to the operators in October last year to minimize the call drop issue.

The neighboring India`s telecommunication authority last year had directed the operators to pay Rs one for each call drop.

Six mobile operators are running operation in Bangladesh having over 13 crore subscribers.

Posts and Telecommunications Secretary Faizur Rahman Chowdhury, BTRC Vice Chairman Brig Gen Ahsan Habib Khan (retd) and officials were present at the press conference.
