Joy inaugurates Voice Mail Service
Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) today introduced Voice Mail Service (VMS) for the convenience of mobile phone users in the country.
Prime Minister`s ICT Affairs Adviser Sajeeb Ahmed Wazed Joy inaugurated the VMS through sending greeting message to BTRC Chairman Dr Shahjahan Mahmood at a ceremony at BTRC office this noon.
In his message Joy said: "My congratulations and gratitude to the BTRC and its Chairman for introducing the VMS in Bangladesh for the first time." He also wished its success.
Private mobile phone operator Robi as the first operator has introduced the service.
State minister for posts and telecommunications Tarana Halim in her message hoped mobile phone users in the country would be benefited using the VMS.
Speaking on the occasion BTRC Chairman Dr Shahjahan Mahmood said, the VMS would pave the way for mobile phone user to sent message if his/her desired recipient would not be reached.
Terming the VMS as important and useful features, he said it would improve the lifestyle of people in this era of digitization.
Replying to a query regarding the quality of services in VMS, Shahjahan Mahmood said, "not only the VMS, we are focusing on all the services to ensure quality for customers` satisfaction."
He said Teletalk and Banglalink have taken preparation to introduce the VMS. The BTRC Chairman also urged other operators to launch it.
Earlier in December last year, the regulator has directed the operators to introduce the VMS within three months although the operators were reluctant for it, calling it obsolete.
Voicemail allows customers to leave a voice message when the user is on another call, does not answer or when their phone is switched off.
Subscribers can listen to the recorded message at a later time.
Explaining the VMS, Robi Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mahtab Uddin Ahmed said normal call charge would be applicable for the VMS now.
"We would introduce packages after getting directives from BTRC," he added mentioning that currently 1.2 million customers are using the existing VMS in their network.
The first local CEO of Robi said they would put concentration to popularize the VMS among the customers.
BTRC Vice Chairman Ahsan Habib Khan, Commissioners and high officials were present while BTRC Secretary Sarwar Alam moderated the occasion.
