Samsung to start production of its first foldable smartphone

Samsung along with other major smartphone makers such as Apple, LG and Microsoft have filed applications for foldable smartphones with USPTO (United States Patent and Trademark Office) in the recent past. However, we are still unaware of when exactly this technology will take form of reality.

A new report by Digitimes suggests that Samsung is planning on starting small production of its first set of foldable smartphones with a flexible AMOLED display in Q4 of 2017 and the mass production for the same will begin in the second half of 2018.

Previously, news agency ETNews published a report which claimed that the South-Korean tech giant plans on showcasing a prototype of its foldable smartphone at the MWC event in 2017.

The report also mentioned that the company will be showcasing a number of inward and outward-folding devices during the event.

It’s safe to assume that it could be the same device that will be mass produced next year, however; we suggest that the readers take this news with a pinch of salt as nothing has been confirmed by the company yet.
