Maradona accused of using fake passport
Argentina and Napoli legend Diego Maradona was prevented from boarding a flight to Dubai this weekend, accused of presenting false travel documents.
According to Argentine newspaper Clarin, the incident occurred on Sunday night when the ex-player turned up at Buenos Aires’ Ministro Pistarini International Airport to catch a flight for his trip to Dubai, accompanied by his girlfriend Rocio Oliva.
The report stated that when Maradona presented his passport to border police in order to gain access to the departures lounge, he was apprehended and accused of using a false, stolen travel document.
Initially unable to understand what the problem was, the former Argentina coach and called his lawyer in an attempt to get to the bottom of the situation.
However, having missed his flight before being released, a furious Maradona believes that the bizarre situation is linked to politics.
‘I don’t let anyone govern my life,’ he told Diario Popular. ‘For 15 years, I have done whatever I want and nobody tells me what to do, this complaint about theft is complete nonsense.
‘My lawyer will now have the task of investigating this lie orchestrated by politicians. What happened is very strange.’
