Tamim suffers from injury during practice

According to Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) chief physician Dr Debashish Chowdhury, it will take at least two to three weeks for Tamim to recover

Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal fractured his finger during the practice session on Saturday. The left-handed batsman picked up the injury on his ring finger during the catching practice, an x-ray on Sunday revealed. According to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) chief physician Dr Debashish Chowdhury, it will take at least two to three weeks for Tamim to recover.

‘He has fractured his ring finger during catching practice but it is not very serious. Good thing is that the fracture did not spread and is in one place. We are hopeful for him to recover within two to three weeks,’ said Debashish.

Bangladesh is mulling an one-day international series in mid September against Afghanistan at home before England arrives for two Tests and three ODIs at the end of the same month. Dr Debashish is confident for Tamim to recover and be available for selection for both the series.

‘But then again we also need to see how the fracture behaves, it varies from person to person. Tamim is a strong character and I am hopeful he will be fine before the matches,’ said the BCB physician.

The last time Tamim was out from the Bangladesh squad due to injury was during the Asia Cup 2014. The selectors than had Tamim, who was suffering from a neck strain, rested to have him available for the ICC World Twenty20 months later.
