BD assures Aussie cricket team of foolproof security
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan on Monday said the government has assured the Australian authorities of foolproof security and hoped that their cricket team will visit Bangladesh to play the scheduled test series.
“Now we expect that the [Australian] team will change its decision over security concern and visit Bangladesh for playing the tournament,” he told reporters after a meeting with the visiting security team of Cricket Australia (CA) at the Secretariat.
Australian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Greg Wilcock and Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hasan were also present at the meeting.
The minister said the Australian security team has been informed about the security system and the types of security that will be provided to the team. The cricket team will be provided with VVIP security system.
The security team, however, did not inform when the cricket team will visit, Asaduzzaman said adding that the security team will give a proposal to the Australian government on their return to Australia.
After analysing the proposal, the Australian government will decide about their Bangladesh tour.
BCB president Nazmul Hasan told reporters that they have assured the Australian security team that Bangladesh is safe for cricket. “We’ll also provide extra security for the players if they demand,” he added.
Earlier on Sunday, Cricket Australia delayed the departure of its test team for a two-match tour in Bangladesh due to concerns about the safety and security of the team.
