Cricketer Tamim Iqbal suffered a massive heart attack while playing in a Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League match between Mohammedan Sporting Club and Shinepukur Cricket Club in Savar on Monday.

He was immediately rushed to Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Memorial Hospital, where doctors performed an emergency procedure to place a stent.

BCB director and senior Mohammedan Sporting Club official Mahbub Anam, along with the club’s cricket manager Sazzad Hossain Shipon, confirmed the information to Jago News.

They stated that doctors have reported some improvement in Tamim’s condition.

Shipon further informed that one of the arteries in Tamim’s heart was completely blocked, necessitating the stent placement. Doctors have mentioned that if the stent functions properly, the next course of action will be determined. For now, his breathing is being supported by medical equipment.

Earlier, Tamim suddenly fell seriously ill during the match. He informed his team manager, Sazzad Ahmed, saying, "I am feeling very unwell. I am having chest pain."

Based on his symptoms, Shipon and other teammates suspected it might be a heart attack. Without delay, a helicopter was arranged to transport him to Evercare Hospital in Dhaka. However, despite efforts, he could not be airlifted, as he collapsed again during the process.

Realizing the gravity of the situation, he was quickly transferred to a local hospital near BKSP. Upon assessment, his condition was deemed critical, and he was moved to the ICU. As his condition worsened, Tamim was placed on life support.
