Shanto steps down as T20I captain
Nazmul Hossain Shanto has officially announced his decision to step down as the captain of Bangladesh's T20I team. A reliable source from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) confirmed that Shanto has communicated his decision, stating that he no longer wishes to lead the T20I side. However, he has expressed his willingness to continue as the captain of the Test and ODI teams. The board has reportedly accepted his decision.
This means Shanto will not captain Bangladesh in the upcoming T20I series against Zimbabwe at home in March. Although the BCB has yet to officially announce the new captain, it is not difficult to identify the frontrunner.
Under Liton Das’s captaincy, Bangladesh secured a 3-0 victory in the recent T20I series against the West Indies. If everything goes as planned, Liton is expected to take over as the next T20I captain.
While Mehidy Hasan Miraz’s name has also been discussed, his place in the T20I squad is not consistent. Taskin Ahmed has been another frequently mentioned candidate, but his injury-prone nature and workload across all three formats have ruled him out for now.
Liton’s success as captain in the most recent series has effectively eliminated alternative options, making him the likely choice for Bangladesh's next T20I skipper.
