Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has been suspended from bowling in England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) competitions after playing just one match for Surrey last season.

The 37-year-old was investigated for his bowling action in Surrey's defeat by Somerset in September, the only match he played for the county, before they sealed a third County Championship title in a row.

His action exceeded the 15-degree threshold allowed by ECB rules, an independent assessment found, reports BBC.

"Shakib is ineligible to bowl in ECB competitions until he has passed an independent re-assessment of his bowling action," the ECB said in a statement.

Shakib joined Surrey for their key match against title rivals Somerset and took nine wickets across both innings.

He was bowled out for 12 in the first innings and a duck in the second.

Shakib has played in 71 Test matches, 247 one-day internationals and 129 T20 internationals for his country, scoring a total of 14,730 runs and claiming 712 wickets.

He has not signed a contract with an English county for the 2025 season.
