BCB announce squad for ODI series; Shanto, Hridoy ruled out
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced a 15-member squad for the three-match ODI series against the West Indies. The matches are scheduled to be held in St Kitts, with the first ODI set for December 8.
Allrounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz, fresh off his maiden Test captaincy, will lead the ODI side for the first time in the absence of regular captain Najmul Hossain Shanto, who is recovering from a groin injury.
Middle-order batsman Towhid Hridoy has also been ruled out due to a groin issue. The BCB’s medical team confirmed his unavailability.
“Hridoy had complained of pain in his right groin region, and investigations have confirmed a medical condition. He has been advised rest, and we will reassess his condition in two weeks,” said BCB Sports Physician Dr Monzur Hossain Chowdhury.
In their place, left-handed batsman Afif Hossain Dhrubo has returned to the ODI squad after a year-long gap. His last ODI appearance for Bangladesh was in December 2023. On the other hand, Zakir Hasan, who featured in last month’s ODI series against Afghanistan, has been dropped.
Fast bowler Nahid Rana, who impressed on debut against Afghanistan, retains his place in the squad.
