India skipper Suryakumar Yadav won the toss and elected to field first against Bangladesh in the opening T20 international in Gwalior on Sunday.

The hosts have handed international debuts to new pace sensation Mayank Yadav and batting all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy at the start of the three-match series.

Mayank, 22, made heads turn with deliveries of more than 150 kilometres (93 miles) per hour for Lucknow Super Giants in this year's Indian Premier League T20 tournament.

India won the T20 World Cup title in June, after which leading players Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja quit the format.

Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto said he is hoping for his young team to do "something special" after their 2-0 loss in the Test series against India.

The tourists have opted for three seamers and two spinners at the new venue, which is hosting its first international match.
