Mominul's brilliant century in Kanpur
Mominul Haque delivered a masterful performance at Green Park in Kanpur. While Mushfiqur Rahim, Liton Das, and Shakib Al Hasan fell cheaply at one end, Mominul held firm at the other. His determined innings culminated in a magnificent century, raising his bat to the applause of the Indian fans.
India had dominated with three centuries in the first Test of the series in Chennai, but Bangladesh struggled to match that. Mominul finally delivered for the Tigers in Kanpur, scoring the 13th century of his Test career, filling a gap Bangladesh had sorely felt.
By the time Bangladesh reached the mid-day break, they were 205 for 6 after 66 overs, with Mominul unbeaten on 102 and Mehidy Hasan Miraz keeping him company on 6.
The fourth day's play began with Bangladesh at 107 for 3, but it didn’t start well for the visitors under the sunny skies of Green Park. Mushfiqur Rahim, who resumed on 6, added just 5 more runs before being bowled by Jasprit Bumrah for 11.
Mominul and Liton Das steadied the innings briefly, but Liton couldn't stick around, getting caught by Rohit Sharma off Mohammad Siraj for 13 (30 balls, 3 fours). Soon after, Shakib Al Hasan followed, caught by Siraj off Ravichandran Ashwin for 9. Shakib had hit a boundary off Ashwin’s previous delivery, only to fall to the very next ball, caught at mid-off.
Rain had disrupted play on both the second and third days, preventing a single ball from being bowled. On the first day, only 35 overs were possible due to two rain interruptions, with Bangladesh ending at 107 for 3. Mominul and Mushfiqur were still at the crease at stumps that day.
