BCB faces legal notice seeking Sakib’s expulsion from nat’l team

A legal notice has been served on the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), demanding the removal of cricketer Sakib Al Hasan from the national team and his immediate return to Bangladesh. 

Supreme Court lawyer Barrister Sajib Mahmud Alam sent the notice on Saturday (August 24), citing the cricketer’s involvement in a murder case as grounds for his expulsion under ICC rules.

Sakib, the former captain of the Bangladesh cricket team, has been named as the 28th accused in a case related to the murder of garment worker Rubel during the anti-discrimination student movement. The case, filed at a Dhaka police station, includes 500 individuals, among them former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, her sister Sheikh Rehana, and Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader.

According to the case statement, Rubel was allegedly shot dead on the orders of those accused.

Sakib is currently with the Bangladesh national team in Rawalpindi for the first match of a two-Test series against Pakistan. 

He joined the team directly from Canada, bypassing Bangladesh. As of today (Saturday), the third day of the Test, Shakib has taken one wicket in the first innings and scored 15 runs with the bat. The case against him was registered in Dhaka on August 22.
