Will seek alternative to Hathurusingha, asserts Faruk

Faruk Ahmed, who previously served as the Chief Selector of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), has returned to the board, this time as its president.

Despite his long absence, his views on the current head coach, Chandika Hathurusingha, have not softened.

In a recent interview, Faruk expressed his dissatisfaction with Hathurusingha, stating that he would not have kept the Sri Lankan coach if he were in charge.

Now that Faruk is at the helm of BCB, the question arises: has he changed his stance, or does he still want Hathuru gone?

During his first press conference as BCB president, Faruk made it clear that his position remains unchanged.

Although Hathurusingha is under contract with BCB until the 2025 Champions Trophy, terminating his contract early would result in significant financial loss for the board.

"I'm not fully aware of the exact terms of Chandika Hathurusingha's contract," Faruk said.

"But my position remains the same. Now that I'm responsible, I'll look for alternatives—someone better or at least of similar quality. I’ll consult with the CEO and those who have worked closely with him before making any decisions."

Faruk emphasised that he has not yet moved from his original stance regarding Hathurusingha's future with the team.
