Real Madrid go top of the table with big win in Girona
Real Madrid are the new LaLiga leader, having won 3-0 away at Girona on Saturday evening thanks to goals from Joselu, Aurelian Tchouameni and Jude Bellingham.
It was a statement win for Los Blancos, with the o
Girona actually started as the better side and they had early headed chances that Yangel Herrera and Viktor Tsyhankov failed to take, as well as a penalty shout for a potential Bellingham handball.
But, Real Madrid managed to weather that storm and they took the lead against the run of play in the 17th minute when Bellingham played a Luka Modric-esque outside-of-the-boot pass for Joselu to latch on to and turn in past a poor Paulo Gazzaniga.
Just four minutes later it was 2-0 to Carlo Ancelotti's side, as Tchouameni found space at a corner to head in.
Girona struggled to get back in to the game and Real Madrid were comfortable and in control.
Deep into the second half, in the 71st minute, they made it 3-0 and did so thanks to MVP Bellingham, who fired in a volley at a counter attack.
There was one negative for Real Madrid, as Nacho was sent off deep into stoppage time for a bad studs-up tackle on Portu.
That sparked a mini brawl, but everyone then cooled down and Real Madrid will travel back with three points.
