Mushfiqur 126 gives Bangladesh lead of 155

Bangladesh 369 (Mushfiqur 126, Shakib 87, McBrine 6-118) lead Ireland 214 (Tector 50, Tucker 37, Taijul 5-58) by 155 runs

Mushfiqur Rahim's 126, along with Shakib Al Hasan's 87 and Litton Das' 43, flattened Ireland on the second day of the Dhaka Test.

The home side were all out for 369 as they took a 155-run lead. The only positive for the visitors on an otherwise sloppy day in the field was Andy McBrine's six-wicket haul, the best-ever bowling figure for Ireland, going past Tim Murtagh's 5 for 8 in 2019. McBrine's figures of 6 for 118 included four of the last five wickets, including that of Mushfiqur.

Bangladesh made their quickest 350-plus score, scoring at 4.58 an over. This was Mushfiqur's fourth hundred at the Shere Bangla National Stadium, the most by a batter at this venue. He added 159 runs for the fourth wicket with Shakib Al Hasan, who blasted 87 off 94 balls, before Litton Das breezed to 43 off 41 balls. Bangladesh batted at five an over in the first two sessions of the day, when they made 136 and 146 runs respectively.

Bangladesh's domination on the second day started shortly after Mark Adair removed Mominul Haque's leg stump in the third over of the day.

Shakib then joined Mushfiqur at the crease and got off the mark with a boundary. He continued to play aggressively - he was particularly crafty in using the pace of the bowlers, spin and pace alike, to guide the ball through backward point and third-man.

Mushfiqur complemented Shakib in the 159-run fourth wicket stand, finding plenty of ones and twos. He struck six fours and a six in the first session, while Shakib scored a dozen boundaries. McBrine finally got the breakthrough, having Shakib edge one behind. Litton then came to the middle and made sure the momentum did not slip away.

He struck three fours in a 19-run Curtis Campher over. Another flurry of boundaries followed as they sped to an 87-run fifth wicket stand, in just 13.5 overs.

Mushfiqur then reached his century, off 135 balls, with a boundary. Litton missed out on a big score himself when he struck Ben White down mid-off's throat.

McBrine had Mushfiqur's wicket when he holed out at long-on where Murray Commins took a catch. Taijul Islam also fell to McBrine, bowled off the inside edge for four. He completed his five-for by pinning Shoriful Islam in front.

Ebadot Hossain was McBrine's sixth, when he had him caught behind. Mehidy rushed to his fourth fifty before falling to Ben White, who took two wickets in total. Adair also took two wickets, but the bowling and fielding in general didn't really put Bangladesh under enough pressure on the second day.
