Nigar out to make first World Cup appearance memorable
Bangladesh women's team captain Nigar Sultana wants to make their first appearance in the World Cup a memorable one, showing a good performance throughout the tournament.
"We want to make this World Cup memorable because this is our first World Cup. We want to give our best here. We have experienced players who make my job easier. They know how important a role they have to play in my team. They also know what to do in the main match. I think there are a lot of young players who have done well in the last few months. There are a lot of all-rounders, they gave a good effort in the last tournament."
"Hopefully, we will do well in the main match," Nigar Sultana said in a press conference in New Zealand.
"I think this is a great opportunity for all of us. As you can see, we worked hard for it. This is our first World Cup, I think if we can do well here it will have a great impact on Bangladesh cricket."
Terming her bowling unit as better than the batting unit, she said: "We have good bowling and batting units. But I think everyone knows that our bowling unit is better. We will try our best to play according to our ability." Bangladesh had arrived in New Zealand earlier in a bid to get used to the condition since they have never played here.
"We came a little earlier because we had to adapt to the wicket and the conditions. We've never played in New Zealand before. Now is not the time to think about what we will get. Now we have to look ahead." "As I said before, we want to take all the preparations here. We have to make good use of the opportunity of the World Cup. If you look at our squad, there are many experienced young people who have done well in the past. We want to take advantage of all the opportunities in the preparation match that we can use in the main match," she remarked.
She further said the World Cup is a stage where they want to leave a mark.
"We have been working hard since the T20 World Cup. Because I knew this was our best chance. When we went to the qualifiers, we told each other, this is our best chance.
"Because it's our best squad. We had to come to the World Cup. Despite playing in four T20 World Cups, we could not get any in ODIs. I think it's a great opportunity for us to compete with the world," she said.
