Ronaldo is EURO 2016’s unstoppable player

Portugal’s captain and record cap accumulator Ronaldo cemented his impact at the European stage and claimed an international prize.

The football Samaritans of India have voted. Over 30 days and 70 matches later, the country has voted for its champion at the Euro 2016 championship.

Cristiano Ronaldo has been voted as the Renault’s ‘Unstoppable’ Player of Euro 2016, a poll that had been organized by Goal for the duration of the recently concluded European championships, that were hosted by France.

Whilst Ronaldo raised head and shoulders above the competition, the chasing pack consisted of players ala Gareth Bale, Antoinne Griezmann and other notables who made an impact for their country on the international stage.

Ronaldo was quintessential for his team’s success at the competition. He scored twice in a taciturn bout between Hungary and Portugal, to ensure the Seleccao went into the Round of 16. Therein, he made two assists - one for Ricardo Quaresma’s 117th minute goal against Croatia and Nani’s goal against Wales - a knockout blow.

He made headlines for his out-of-the-world leap when he scored against Bales’ Wales in the semi-finals of the competition.

His time in the competition’s final against France was cut short due to an injury sustained, lasting just 25 minutes and making eight touches of the ball in that period.

Here are few of Real Madrid’s record goal scorer’s incredible stats from the tournament which helped him clinch the tag of Renault’s ‘Unstoppable’ Player.

- Ronaldo played every match for his team scoring three goals (two headers) and making three assists in the competition. In his path to the final, he equaled French hero Michel Platini’s record of scoring 9 goals on the European stage.

- The Portugal skipper has also mustered an unearthly 122 shots at the European Championships, since his debut at Euro 2004, with his nearest competitor at 52 shots in Thierry Henry.
