Indian wrestler shot dead 5 days after bronze in World Championship
Five days after she brought glory to the country by winning a bronze medal at a world championship, wrestler Nisha Dahiya and her brother Suraj were shot dead today at the Sushil Kumar Wrestling Academy in Haryana's Sonipat. The wrestler's mother Dhanpati was injured in the incident and is now in a critical condition.
Police are yet to identify the assailants and the reason for the shooting is not yet known.
This comes days after Nisha Dahiya won a bronze medal in the 65 kg category at the World U-23 Championships in Belgrade, Serbia. Incidentally, this morning the Prime Minister congratulated her and several other medal winners at the Belgrade championship for bringing glory to the country.
The wrestler's mother has been admitted to Rohtak, PGI and the bodies of the siblings have been sent for posto-mortem.
