Sohan, Shykat script Sheikh Jamal’s victory against Prime Bank

Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club kicked off their super league phase journey in the Bangabandhu Dhaka Premier League (DPL) in style, crushing Prime Bank Cricket Club by seven wickets in a show of unwavering resolve at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Sunday.

Prime Bank who topped the group phase compiled a decent 164-3, which was not a bad total in this wicket but Sheikh Jamal made it cakewalk, vastly riding on opener Shykat Ali and Nurul Hasan Sohan, who helped the side gun down the total with 11 balls to spare.

Shykat Ali paved the platform to wallop the target with 36 ball-60, that included six fours and three sixes. Later Sohan whacked the bowlers all corner of the park to blast an unbeaten 44 off just 17, an inning studded with two fours and four sixes.

In pursuit of the target, Jamal lost Ashraful who scored just 5 after opening the innings with Shykat. But it mattered little as Shykat was in good touch. He was ably supported by Imrul Kayes as they shared 100-run for the second wicket stand to keep the side in hunt well.

Prime Bank however sensed a glimmer of hope to bounce back in the match when they removed Shykat and Kayes in the consecutive overs.

Rubel got the better of Shykat while Nahidul Islam took the wicket of Kayes. The match could have turned in Prime Bank’s way but Sohan resisted. His ultra-aggressive knock indeed didn’t let Prime Bank make any comeback.

Earlier Prime Bank found it tough to rotate the scoreboard after they were asked to bat. Their top order fared badly to leave the side in a cornered state before Mohammad Mithun helped the side hit back.

Mithun got the support from Raqibul Hasan and together they added 73 off just 38 in an unbeaten fourth wicket stand to steer the side to a good total.

Mithun was not out on 68 off 42, hitting seven fours and two sixes while Raqbiul who was unbeaten on 19 ball-34, struck four fours and one six. Skipper Anamul Haque Bijoy made 27 off 28.

Sheikh Jamal’s left-arm spinner Elias Sunny scalped 2-29 while Ziaur Rahman took the rest of the wicket.

Earlier, rain forced the postponement of the match between Gazi Group Cricket and Prime Doleshwar Sporting Club after the former reached 73-4 in 12 overs. As per the new decision of the Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis (CCDM), the match will be held on a reserved day.
