Chess Olympiad: Bangladesh finish 9th in 10-nation Pool A

Bangladesh team finished 9th in the 10-team Pool A in Division 2 of the FIDE Online World Chess Olympiad on Sunday.

Bangladesh earned 3 match points and 17 game points to settle for the 9th place in the nine-round robin league basis three-day competition concluded on Sunday, reports UNB.

Bulgaria became 1st securing 18 match points, Germany became 2nd with 15 match points and Indonesia became 3rd with 12 match points and the three top teams have qualified for the top Division from Pool ‘A’ of Division 2. 

Out of the day's three rounds, Bangladesh drew 3-3 with Turkmenistan in the 7th round.

IM Mohammad Fahad Rahman won against FM Nurmamedov Azat and WCM Ahmed Walijah won WFM Mekanova Annagozel. 

GM Niaz Murshed drew with IM Atabayev Yusup while GM Ziaur Rahman drew with IM Atabayev Saparmyrat. WIM Rani Hamid and WIM Sharmin Sultana Shirin lost to WFM Ovezdurdiyeva Jemal and WFM Hallaeva, Bahar respectively. 

In the day's 8th round matches, Bangladesh lost to Philippines by 1½-4.5 match points.

GM Ziaur Rahman won against GM Laylo Darwin and IM Mohammad Fahad Rahman drew with Concio Michael Jr. 

GM Niaz Murshed lost to GM Mark Paragua, WIM Rani Hamid lost to WGM Frayna, Janelle Mae WCM Samiha Sharmin Shimmi lost to WIM Galas Bernadettee and WCM Ahmed Walijah lost lost to San Diego Jerlyn Mae. 

In the days 9th or last round, Bangladesh lost to Bulgaria by ½-5½ game points. 

Only IM Mohammad Fahad Rahman drew with CM Arfan Aditya Bagus. GM Reefat Bin Sattar, FM Md Taibur Rahman, WFM Nazrana Khan Eva, WCM Samiha Sharmin Shimmi and WFM Noshin Anjum lost against GM Megaranto Susanto, IM Priasmoro Novendra, IM Sukandar Irine Kharisma, IM Aulia, Medina Warda and WIM Fisabilillah Umm of Indonesia respectively. 

Among the Bangladeshi players,  IM Mohammad Fahammad Rahman earned 5 points out 8 games, GM Ziaur Rahman earned 2½ points out of 5 games, GM Niaz Murshed earned 2½ points out of 6 games, GM Reefat Bin Sattar earned 2 points out of 6 games, WCM Ahmed Walijah earned 2 points out of 5 games, WCM Noshin Anjum earned 1 point out of 4 games, WIM Sharmin Sultana Shirin earned 1 points out of 5 and WIM Rani Hamid earned 1 point out 6 games.
