Dipu Chakma wins first gold for Bangladesh
Dipu Chakma has bagged the first gold medal for Bangladesh in the 13th South Asian Games at Satdobato Sports Complex in Kathmandu, Nepal.
He won Gold in the 29+ age category in poomsae event of taekwondo beating athletes from India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and hosts Nepal on Monday.
Dipu from Rangamati scored 16.24 points with 8.28 in the opening round and 7.96 in the second round.
Lakshman Ilandarige of Sri Lanka scored 8.22 to win silver while Gangphung Gangsa of India won bronze with 8.14 points.
“It’s always a great pleasure to win gold for the country. I’m really proud today for representing Bangladesh.” Said Dipu after the event.
Earlier in the day, Humaira Akhter Antara won a bronze medal in the women’s individual kata event of karate.
