‘We would stand by Shakib whatever decision ICC takes’

State Minister for Youth and Sports Jahid Ahsan Russel has said we would stand by Shakib Al Hasan whatever decision the International Cricket Council (ICC) takes against him.

Russel on Tuesday said this at the Secretariat following the reports published in different media against the all-rounder that he is set to be banned for not reporting a corrupt approach.

The State Minister questioned about authenticity of the reports. He also said it’s the matter of ICC and there is no scope to intervene.

“We are monitoring the matter how to solve the problem properly,” he said.

The State Minister also said: “I have already talked with BCB about the matter and they assured me that they will send a letter to ICC.”

To be noted, different media reported, two years ago, Shakib received an offer from a bookie before an international match, which he did not report to the ICC’s Anti-Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU).
