BCB interviews Russell Domingo for head coach post

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) interviewed former South Africa coach Russell Domingo for a role as a head coach, which remains vacant after the board mutually parted ways with Steve Rhodes following the disappointing performance in World Cup (WC), reports BSS.

Domingo is the first of three coaches for head coach post shortlisted by BCB to give the interview on Wednesday.

Chairman of BCB Media and Communications Committee Jalal Younus said the rest of the two coaches will be interviewed very soon.

Younus, however, was reluctant to disclose their names and even the date when they will be interviewed. “We’ll try to take the interview of the rest of the two coaches within very short time. But at the moment I am not in a position to disclose who those two coaches are and when they will be interviewed. What I can say is that we’ll try to take the interview before Eid break,” Younus said here on Wednesday.

He also disclosed that they are trying to finalize the name of the head coach within next 10 days.

Younus termed Russell’s presentation during his two and half hours long interview as pleasing.

“He presented his future plan with Bangladesh cricket team and I will say it is quite satisfactory. His background is also good. He is now with South Africa A team and he was the coach of South African national team. But it’s not the end of the world as I said that we have two coaches also. We’ll see how they present their plan,” he added.

Younus, the BCB spokesperson also said that those three coaches were shortlisted from 12 coaches. “All I can say that we will appoint a coach within this three. There is little possibility that we will go for another option.”

Domingo arrived in the country at 10.40 am and went straight to Beximco Pharma, the corporate office of BCB president Nazmul Hassan Papon.

He is set to leave the country on Thursday.

Domingo took over as the coach of South Africa T20 side in 2012 before he replaced Gary Kirsten in the remaining formats in 2013. He was in charge of the Proteas till 2017 before Otis Gibson took over in 2017.

BCB has already appointed former South Africa pacer Charl Langeveldt as the pace bowling coach of Bangladesh while Daniel Vettori was appointed the spin coach.
