Rain washes out Bangladesh-Ireland match in Dublin
The match between Bangladesh and hosts Ireland, the third match of tri-nation series, was called off without of ball being bowled due to consistent rain at the Malahide in Dublin on Thursday.
Thereby the points were shared, taking Bangladesh to the top of the points table with six points, followed by West Indies who are now on five points from two games. Ireland now has two points, reports BSS.
The match officials waited till 7.15pm Bangladesh time before making the decision as the rain didn’t show any intention to stop. For much of the morning and afternoon, the rain continued pouring, making it difficult to start the game.
The toss also didn’t take place as the rain began soon after the teams arrived at the venue. Thursday’s game would have been the first meeting between Bangladesh and Ireland in two years.
Bangladesh crushed West Indies by eight wickets in their first match while Ireland tasted a 196-run defeat to the Caribbean side in the tri-series opener.
In double-league tournament, Ireland now will take on West Indies in the fourth game of the tri-series, also in Malahide, on Saturday. The weather forecast is much better for that game.
