Bangabandhu Inter-University Sports Champs begins Friday
The “Bangabandhu Inter-University Sports Champs 2019” will begin tomorrow (March 29), marking the birth anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
With participation of more than 3,500 students from 70 public and private universities the event will be held across the country, said a press release today, BSS reported.
The mega sports event will be organized under 10 disciplines of sports – Football, Cricket, Swimming, Athletics, Table Tennis, Basketball, Volleyball, Handball, Cycling and Badminton.
With the theme “Let’s build a Bangladesh in cognition of Bangabandhu” inspired by the ideals of the greatest Bengali of all time, the event will be held at different university campuses across the country.
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal is expected to inaugurate the championship at the Amphitheater in Hatirjheel in the capital at 10 in the morning.
State Minister for Youth and Sports Zahid Ahsan Russell will preside over the opening ceremony.
Prior to the inaugural ceremony, marathon and cycling events participated by hundreds of universities students will be held at Hatirjheel at 7am and 9am respectively.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to handover the champions trophy to the winner university at a colorful closing ceremony on April 17 at Bangabandhu National Stadium in the capital.
With direction of the Youth and Sports Ministry, technical assistance and supervision of ten sports federations and private patronage of Polar, Spellbound Leo Burnett as the event partner all preparations are complete to conduct the event.
The top three winners of every event will be awarded gold, silver and bronze medals respectively and the highest gold medal awarded male, female participants will be awarded a “Best University Athlete – Male” and “Best University Athlete – Female” trophies respectively.
Besides, the highest Gold medal winning university will be awarded the “Bangabandhu Inter-University Sports Champs 2019 – Champions” trophy. The winner university will be able to keep the trophy for a year.
Advisory committee Convener Nahim Razzaq said: “Bangabandhu Inter- University Champs 2019″ is going to be organised to empower the youths, develop their skills and achieve more excellence in sports.”
He said the event is being organized to build the nation, especially the youths, inspired by the ideals and cognitions of Bangabandhu and to keep the vigor and fervor of the youth elevated.
