West Indies stand-in captain Rovman Powell won the toss and decided to bat against Bangladesh in the first ODI in Dhaka. The decision was slightly surprising given the amount of dew that usually falls at the Shere Bangla National Stadium around 7.00 pm onwards, reports ESPNcricinfo.

The visitors made two changes, with Darren Bravo and Roston Chase coming in to replace regular captain Jason Holder and left-arm spinner Fabian Allen. Powell meanwhile became West Indies' 29th ODI captain, and the third stand-in during Holder's reign that began in 2015.

Bangladesh made five changes, bringing in Shakib Al Hasan, Tamim Iqbal, Mustafizur Rahman, Mehidy Hasan and Rubel Hossain. They dropped Mohammad Mithun, Nazmul Islam, Mohammad Saifuddin, Abu Hider and Ariful Haque from their last ODI, against Zimbabwe in October.

The home captain, Mashrafe Mortaza, is playing his 200th ODI although he has played two of those for Asia XI in 2005. Nonetheless, he is the first Bangladeshi to reach the milestone.
