Shadman hits half century in debut Test
Opener Shadman Islam scored his maiden half century in his debut second and final Test against visiting West Indies at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium at Mirpur on Friday, reports BSS.
The left handed batsman hit 76 off 199 balls before he was trapped leg- before by Devendra Bishoo as Bangladesh reached 175-4 at tea on the first day after electing to bat first.
Bishoo also bowled Mohammad Mithun for 29 for the West Indies’ only other success in the post-lunch session to end Shadman’s 64-run partnership for the third wicket.
Shadman, who replaced injured Imrul Kayes in the opening slot, anchored Bangladesh’s innings from the start through his patient knock, which studded with six fours.
The 23-year young star, who has played 42 first-class games, has 3023 runs at an average of 47.50. Ahead of the first Test, when there was considerable amount of confusion over Tamim’s availability, the selectors had added Islam as cover.
