Bangladesh U15 girls lose SAFF crown to India

India have clinched the six-nation South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) Under-15 Women’s Championship, beating Bangladesh 1-0 at the Changlimithan Stadium in Thimphu, Bhutan on Saturday.

India took the revenge by clinching the championship title as they lost in the final against Bangladesh in Dhaka last year.

The first half of the match ended without any score while in the second half, India got their most expected goal.

After the break, both the teams fought with all their might with India taking the lead from a short corner in the 66th minute through Sunita Munda.

The junior tigresses went at the Indians with all guns blazing but luck was not on their side as two brilliant efforts by the girls hit the woodwork.

Though Bangladeshi girls played heart and soul to make a comeback, however, the match ended with the solitary goal by India.

Earlier, Bangladesh stormed the final with all-win record and keeping their post intact as they got 5-0 victory against hosts Bhutan in the second semifinal after emerging Group B champions outplaying Nepal by 3-0 goals after a stunning start of 14-0 win against Pakistan.

India reached the final, having a 2-1 win against Nepal in the first semifinal being Group A champions beating Bhutan by 1-0 goal after an emphatic 12-0 win against Sri Lanka.

In the last edition, Bangladesh beat India twice -- 1-0 in the final and by 3-0 in the group stage -- where Bhutan and Nepal conceded 3-0 and 6-0 goals loss.
