Young Tigers in hot chase of 266 against nemesis India

A tenacious bowling and fielding  performance has given the Bangladesh under-19 cricket team a fighting chance against India in their ICC U19 World Cup 2018 quarterfinal, taking place in Queenstown, New Zealand today.

The Young Tigers are chasing a target of 266, after they bowled out the Indians for 265 in 49.2 overs, although at one stage it looked set to be easily at least 40 runs more, especially during a 2nd wicket stand between captain P.P. Shaw (40) and Shubman Gill, who top-scored with 86, that took the team total quickly beyond 100, inside 17 overs, UNB reported.

Bangladesh’s bowlers stuck at it though, even as India looked set to launch from a comfortable pad of 176/2 with a Powerplay left, and clawed their way back by applying pressure that resulted in wickets, eventually denying their opponents from playing out their full quota of overs even.

Enterprising left-arm quick Qazi Onik was the pick of the Bangladeshi bowlers, coming on first change and ending with figures of 3/48 from his allotment of 10 overs.

In reply Bangladesh U19s are currently 23/0 after 8 overs, Pinak Ghosh and Md Nayeem playing carefully.
