SBNCS will be the 6th venue to host 100 ODIs
January 17, 2018 will be a historical moment at the Mirpur Shere Bangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS) as the stadium will be hosting its 100th ODI! Sri Lanka will clash with Zimbabwe in tri-series tourney on Wednesday in the capital of Bangladesh-Dhaka.
SBNCS has hosted 98 ODIs so far since it made its debut in December 2006 in a Bangladesh vs Zimbabwe match. Monday’s tri-series opener between Bangladesh and Zimbabwe will be the 99th ODI here. This venue will be the fastest –11 years and a month to host 100 ODIs on Wednesday.
This is the only international venue currently in capital city Dhaka. Bangabandhu National Stadium, which hosted Bangladesh’s maiden Test, does not host anymore cricket match since SBNCS took over as home of cricket.
Shere Bangla had hosted 2011 Cricket World Cup including four Bangladesh matches and two quarter-finals.
Bangladesh have played 83 ODIs and won 39 of them. Out of the previous 98 matches at this ground, only one game ended in No Result. That was back in 2014 third ODI between Bangladesh and India.
The Mirpur stadium is not so high-scoring ground. There have been only 13 scores of 300+ totals here. India’s 370/4 against Bangladesh in 2011 World Cup opener is the highest score here. Bangladesh made joint-lowest scores 58 against West Indies (2011 World Cup) and against India (in 2014). Only five times teams have been bowled out under a 100 in which Bangladesh were the batting side on four occasions.
Sharjah Cricket Stadium, Sydney Cricket Ground, Melbourne Cricket Ground, Harare Sports Club and Colombo’s RPS are the other five stadiums to host 100 ODIs or more.
