HC rule on BCB body

The High Court has issued a rule asking the National Sports Council to explain why it should not be directed to restrain the current executive committee of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).

A HC bench comprising Justice SM Emdadul Hoque and Justice Bhishmadev Chakrabortty on Tuesday issued the rule following a writ petition on Tuesday.

The writ petition filed by BCB’s former director Mubasshar Hussain on Sunday sought a rule on the National Sports Council to explain why they should not prevent the present board of directors of the BCB from holding office being ‘illegal’.

In his petition, Mubasshar said that BCB’s present board of directors had lost validity from functioning and holding the AGM or EGM since July 26 when the Appellate Division upheld a High Court verdict that had declared illegal the amendments, brought to BCB’s constitution by NSC in 2012.
