Aussies need 86 to level series

Bangladesh were bowled out for 157 shortly after tea on day four of the second and final Test against Australia in Chittagong, leaving Australia a tricky 86 to get to level the series.

Stephen O’Keefe claimed his second with the final wicket, but Nathan Lyon was the star of the show, claiming 6-60 in the second innings to finish with match figures of 13-154, the best figures from an Australian in Asia, and the seventh best Test return of all time by a man capped in Baggy Green.

His six wickets gave him that many in three successive Test innings, and made him the first Australian since Clarrie Grimmett in 1931-32 to achieve that feat.

Lyon continued his wicket-taking spree after lunch moving to 21 wickets for the series as Australia sought to take control of the second Test in search of a series-levelling victory.

After Australia were bowled out for 377, having failed to add to their overnight score, the home side promptly fell apart with the bat, losing their top five for just 43 as Lyon grabbed three and Pat Cummins and Steve O’Keefe one each.

Cummins was on song from the outset for Australia with the ball, coming around the wicket to left-hander Soumya Sarkar, who edged through to Matt Renshaw at first slip for nine.

Lyon took his eighth wicket for the match soon after, claiming the big scalp of Tamim Iqbal (12), who advanced down the wicket but missed the ball and was smartly stumped by Matthew Wade.

He had nine a short time later, Imrul Kayes popping up a simple catch to Glenn Maxwell at cover to depart for 15.

It was a perfect 10 for Lyon when he dismissed Tigers superstar Shakib Al Hasan for two, the left-hander edging to David Warner who took a good catch moving forward.

O’Keefe then got in on the action, Nasir Hossain also edging, this time to Smith, via the gloves of Wade for a sharp catch at first slip to leave Banlgadesh in all sorts at 5-43.

After lunch, Sabbir Rahman’s resistance also came to an end at the hands of Lyon, as Wade completed another fine stumping to leave the Bangladeshi batsman stranded and on his way back to the pavilion for 24.

Earlier, Tigers paceman Mustafizur Rahman grabbed a fourth wicket to bowl the tourists out for 377, with Lyon (0) the man to go, edging to Imrul Kayes at first slip, as O’Keefe (eight) remained the not out batsman and the visiting side took a 72-run first-innings lead.

Mustafizur finished with figures of 4-84 to claim the bowling honours for Bangladesh.
