Mustafizur added to BPL’s icon players list

A total of seven teams participated in the previous season’s Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) and as many icon players featured for their respective side. From this edition, a new franchise has already been added for participating in the battle so that a new icon player would be required for the tournament.

Everybody was keen to know the name of new icon for the upcoming domestic gala event. When the situation was like that there had been a lot of whispering in the cricketing yard of Bangladesh, Tigers’ left-arm paceman Mustafizur Rahman has been predicted to the new icon beside Imrul Kayes and Nasir Hossen.

However, the confusion was removed by Ismail Haider Mollick, chairman of the BPL GC, while he was announcing the name of Bangladeshi pace sensation Mustafizur Rahman as the new icon cricketer for this year’s BPL at ACME headquarters in Kallaynpur on Monday.

Moreover, Rangpur Riders captain Mashrafe, ace all-rounder Shakib, Tamim Iqbal of Comilla Victorians, Mushfiq and Mahmudullah have been prime choice for the icon players. The rest of the two icons were Sabbir Rahman and Soumaya Sarker.

It was learned that left hander Soumya Sarker might be eliminated from the list of icon player. Imrul will replace Soumay but the Comilla based franchise retained their talented player Imrul so that the BPL GC didn’t choose Imrul for an option. Meanwhile, Dhaka Dynamites retained Nasir Hossen. Thus, there was no scope to keep Nasir in the list of icon.

Ismail Haider Mollick, chairman of the BPL GC, said that five franchises have already submitted their icon players list to them. But he didn’t reveal the name of the franchises.

The rest of three franchises will announce the name of their icon players within very short time, he concluded.
