Before beginning the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) fresh edition, the franchises were seen to desperate attempt to pick their choices. In the aftermath of these, Rangpur Rides, who are set to play this year’s BPL under the new ownership of the Bashundhara Group, have signed Mashrafe Mortaza, a successful campaigner of the BPL who already tasted success of this title before.

It was learned that he would not feature for Comilla Victorians from this edition. From then on, everybody was eager to know his move. Earlier, Jago News published a report regarding his move and hinted that the 33-year old would play for Rangpur Rides in the BPL-5, starting from November 4 this year.

Meanwhile, Comilla have already signed Bangladesh dashing opener Tamim Iqbal Khan as their icon player.

Now the scenario is clear when Ishtiaq Sadik, chief executive officer of Rangpur Riders on Friday announced that they recruited Mashrafe as an icon player, and was also handed captaincy.

“We feel proud as Mashrafe, the most successful captain of the history of Bangladesh, will play for us as well as he is also our icon player,” said the CEO while announcing the name of Mashrafe.

In a bid to form a formidable team, the franchise has already signed a three year contract with the Australian Tom Moody. They are also trying to sign some Twenty20 specialists in their side.

In the meantime, they recruited the Caribbean duo Chris Gayle and Samuel Badri, along with Ravi Bopara and Thisara Perera.

According to sources close to the franchise, they are trying to bring some big shots like David Warner and Chris Morris.

Mashrafe has an impressive record in the Bangladeh Premier League (BPL) as his leadership Dhaka and Comilla lifted the title of this mega domestic event.

Bangladesh national team also got success when he led the side. Under his captaincy, the tigers won 23 out of 37 matches.
