Sri Lanka to tour India in late 2017
For the first time in 8 years, Sri Lanka is set to travel to India for a full tour where they will play 3 Tests, 3 ODIs and 2 T20Is. This will be Sri Lanka’s first tour of India involving all 3 formats since 2009.
Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) confirmed the same on Saturday.“We are yet to confirm the schedule but the tour is confirmed,” board Secretary Mohan de Silva was quoted in a report in Sunday Times.
Though more details are awaited and reportedly yet to be finalised, it is likely that the tour will commence post Sri Lanka’s tour of UAE where they will play Pakistan starting October 17. A report from Mumbai Mirror mentions that BCCI has lined up Sri Lanka and New Zealand for November and December.
Sri Lanka’s last full tour of India was in the 2009-10 season where they lost the Test series 0-2. It was a significant win for India as they climbed to the summit of the ICC Test Rankings.
India won the ODI series 3-1 and the sides levelled the T20I series 1-1. The report mentions that Sri Lanka were scheduled to tour South Africa for a full series in December-January but Cricket South Africa (CSA) has cancelled that and invited India.
India are scheduled to travel to Sri Lanka later this month for a full tour. The first Test begins at Galle from July 26. The last time India travelled to Sri Lanka was in 2015 where they played a Test series. India started with a defeat at Galle but did well to win the following 2 Tests at Colombo to spoil Kumar Sangakkara’s farewell.
