Robi wins Bangladesh team sponsorship rights

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on Thursday declared mobile phone operator Robi as the sponsor of the Bangladesh team, the under- 19 team and Bangladesh women team for the next two years.

Kazi Enam Ahmed, Chairman of BCB Marketing Committee, announced the name of the sponsor around 4:30pm this afternoon.

Robi became the highest bidder in the financial proposal submission for the sponsorship rights. They paid Tk 60-61 crore for the sponsorship, relevant official said.

Several corporate houses of this country like Pran, Robi, Grameenphone, Fresh and Bkash from Meghna group, took part in the bidding. The floor price was Tk60 crore. But Grammenphone, Fresh and Bkash from Meghna group was not eligible for the bid.

It is learnt that, Pran offered below the floor price to get the sponsorship rights. Finally, Robi beat Pran in the final round of bidding.

Kazi Enam Ahmed said that from now on, Robi is the sponsor of Bangladesh national team for next two years.

“We’ve achieved our targets. We are happy now,” he added.
