Rising Pune Supergiant beat Mumbai Indians by 7 wickets
Rising Pune Supergiant begin their IPL 2017 campaign with a seven-wicket win over Mumbai Indians in Pune on Thursday.
After putting Mumbai into bat, Pune were set a stiff 185-run target. It wasn’t heading in this direction after Imran Tahir’s 3/28 derailed the visitors’ innings but Hardik Pandya’s 15-ball 35, and the fireworks in the last over, gave the total a much needed push.
Ajinkya Rahane got Pune off to a flier as he smoked a 34-ball 60 to out the chase on track. After Rahane’s departure, Steve Smith dropped anchor and accelerated when it was required.
Needing 13 off last six, Smith hit consecutive sixes of the fourth and fifth delivery to seal the chase in emphatic fashion. He remained unbeaten on 84, and took only 54 deliveries to get there.
