Cricketer Sunny gets bail in another case
A Dhaka court has granted bail to Bangladesh national team cricketer Arafat Sunny in another case filed under the Dowry Prohibition Act.
Dhaka Metropolitan Session Judge Nur Nobi on Wednesday passed the order following a bail petition filed by Sunny’s lawyers- Juwel Ahmmed and Muraduzzaman Murad.
Nasrin Sultana, who claimed herself to be the wife of Sunny, filed the case against the cricketer under the Dowry Prohibition Act on January 23.
According to the case statement, Sunny married Nasrin on December 4, 2014 with an endowment of Tk5.1 lakh at Grand Prince Hotel Ltd in Mirpur 1. Since then, the couple was living at a rented house in Katasur area.
After six months, Sunny and his mother allegedly demanded a dowry of Tk20 lakh on July 29, 2015. Nasrin also claimed that Arafat had deserted her after torturing her.
Nasrin also claimed that she had been assaulted by Sunny’s mother and some others, who intercepted her on a road near Mohammadpur police station on January 22.
