Bangladesh got their much-needed breakthrough as Lankan batsman Upal Tharanga was run-out by Mahmudullah Riyad, leaving the host at 129 for 2.
Sri Lankan opener Danushka Gunathilaka went back to the pavilion when Bangladesh captain and pacer Mashrafe dismissed him very early in the second one-day international at Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium on Tuesday.
Sri Lanka captain Upul Tharanga won the toss and elected to bat first in the must-win match for the host.
Bangladesh took the lead 1-0 in the series against the host Sri Lanka with a 90-run victory.
The 3rd and last ODI of the series will be played at Sinhalese Sports Club Ground in Colombo on April 1.
