Dhoni meets old tea-seller friend
It is an established fact that former Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni is an epitome of modesty. Before etching his name in the annals of cricket, Dhoni worked as a junior Train Ticket Inspector (TTI) at Kharagpur station.
It was here that Dhoni spent most of his time and quite often visited a chai stall owner known as Thomas because of his love for tea and hot milk.
So, because of the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy, Dhoni happened to visit Kolkata and that is where Thomas decided to visit the special customer.
What`s next? It took just seconds for Dhoni to recognise the all-excited Thomas, who curiously waited outside the Eden Gardens stadium. He rushed towards Dhoni and gave him a hug. That did not end here. Dhoni took Thomas for dinner that very evening.
Well, his journey from the small town of Ranchi to winning the World Cup in 2011 has been documented in `MS Dhoni: The Untold Story`, in which actor Sushant Singh Rajput played the lead role.
"When Dhoni bhai (brother) was in Kharagpur, he used to visit my shop two or three times a day to have tea. Many times I served him hot milk in that period. After today’s incident, I will go back to Kharagpur and name my shop ‘Dhoni Tea Stall," said an emotional Thomas to Daily Bhaskar.
Not only did Dhoni greet Thomas, but also his 11 friends during his time in Railways. He made sure that all of his friends were comfortable and safe. Such is India`s successful captain`s humbleness.
Also, it was seen in the movie how his friends played a huge part in his success. However, Dhoni still remembers their sacrifices and contributions made for him by his closed ones.
Dhoni is also showing that he has still got it by slamming a quick-fire century and guiding Jharkhand beat Chandigarh by 78 runs in the Vijay Hazare Trophy on Sunday.
