India declare at 687/6

Wriddhiman Saha completed his second Test century as India declared their innings at 687 for 6, against a poor Bangladeshi side in the one-off Test at Hyderabad.

Saha got to his second Test ton with a six down the ground off Taijul Islam to continue with his rich form. On the other hand, Ravindra Jadeja beat his batting partner in reaching his milestone.

Jadeja smacked a few sixes to race to his half-century. The two batsmen have added more than 100 runs for the seventh wicket as India continued to make mincemeat of the Bangladeshi bowling attack. On their part, the visitors have used as many as eight bowlers so far.

India have also registered their highest ever total in Test cricket against Bangladesh. India’s previous highest against Bangladesh was 610 for 3 declared at Dhaka in 2007.

India were bolstered by a splendid double century from Virat Kohli, as their run-machine scored fourth double century of his career. Kohli scored 204 off 246 balls, studded with 24 boundaries as he provided India a massive boost to a big total. Kohli added 54 runs with Murali Vijay, but his best partnership in the game has been with Ajinkya Rahane. Kohli and Rahane added 222 runs for the fourth wicket.

Saha consumed 153 balls to score 104, as he got to his second Test century in style. Saha struck 7 boundaries and 2 sixes, whereas Jadeja hammered 3 boundaries and 2 sixes to get to his half-century. Saha remained unbeaten on 106 off 155, whereas Jadeja reached 60 not out. Jadeja could have scored his maiden ton but India decided against India, opting to prey on the tired Bangladeshi tigers.

This is the first occasion in Test cricket when a team has scored 600 or more in three consecutive Tests. In the final two matches against England, India crossed 600 twice.

Brief scores:

India 687 for 6 decl. (Murali Vijay 108, Cheteshwar Pujara 83, Virat Kohli 204, Ajinkya Rahane 82, Wriddhiman Saha 106*, Ravindra Jadeja 60*; Taijul Islam 3 for 156)
