No place for Ganguly in India’s dream test team
Yuvraj Singh has found a place in India’s Dream Test team, voted by cricket fans. Yuvraj Singh, whose limited overs career outweighs his Test credentials, had edged out India’s current Test skipper Virat Kohli and the hugely successful Sourav Ganguly.
On the occasion of India’s 500th Test match – Kohli’s team beat New Zealand by 197 runs in Kanpur’s Green Park - the Indian cricket Board (BCCI) had wanted fans to vote their best Test team, online. Kanpur Test hero off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin is in the Dream XI.
On Monday, the Dream Team was revealed on social media. There are just two players from the Eighties - Sunil Gavaskar and Kapil Dev.
Rahul Dravid (96 per cent) polled the most votes, followed by Anil Kumble (92), Kapil Dev (91) and MS Dhoni (90). Dhoni has been named captain of the Dream team. Sachin Tendulkar has polled 73 per cent votes.
Yuvraj, who last played a Test match in December 2012, is the team’s 12th man. Yuvraj has a Test batting average of 33.92. His ODI average is 36.37. Kohli’s Test batting average is 45.06 and his ODI average is 51.51.
The sample of fans who have voted online is not known. Apart from Yuvraj, the presence of VVS Laxman (58 per cent votes) in the top order is quite a surprise.
India Dream Test XI (as per fan votes): Sunil Gavaskar, Virender Sehwag, Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman, Kapil Dev, MS Dhoni, Ravichandran Ashwin, Anil Kumble, Javagal Srinath, Zaheer Khan and Yuvraj Singh.
