MP Liton taken to Gaibandha
Awami League MP Manjurul Islam Liton, who was arrested on Wednesday on charge of shooting a minor boy, was taken to Gaibandha on Thursday morning.
Amid tight security, a team of Detective Branch (DB) of police took him to police super’s office in the district around 6.00am.
Ashraful Islam, superintendent of police, Gaibandha, confirmed the incident.
Detectives arrested Manjurul Islam Liton in the city’s Uttara area on Wednesday night.
The arrest came hours after the Supreme Court (SC) stayed a High Court order that directed the ruling party MP to surrender before a lower court by October 18 in a case for shooting the minor boy.
The SC passed the order on Wednesday following a petition filed by the state on Tuesday seeking a stay on the HC order.
Early on Monday, the HC rejected the bail petition filed by Liton and asked him to surrender before the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court of Gaibandha by October 18.
